Thank you for registering for the Pre-Conference
Field Trip to Mull, Iona and Staffa. Before we accept your
payment, we would like to give you a little more information about
the trip. Please note that you, or the person you are accompanying
MUST be registered for the conference by May 1st
to retain you place on the field trip.
Payment includes : Mini bus hire, Ferry crossings to Mull, Iona and a trip to Staffa, accommodation
on Mull, all meals on Mull, field guide & distillery tour in Tobermory
Accommodation: Accommodation on Mull is extremely limited, especially for large groups. Scoor
House where we are staying is a converted farm house, and the rooms are typically dormatory
style: i.e. 2-4 beds per room, some bunk beds etc. Everyone going on the trip will have to
share a room, but we will do our best to accommodate everyone (couples etc.).
If this form of accommodation is not acceptable then please contact Kate Dobson (Kate.Dobson@ges.gla.ac.uk)
before paying for the field trip, as other options (hotel and guest house) are available at increased
costs (typically an extra £30-40 per person per night).
Catering: Mull is an island and everything has to be shipped from the mainland. A
local hotel is providing our evening meals, and food for breakfast and lunches will be
a available at Scoor house. If you have any special dietary requirements please
make sure that the organisers know in plenty of time to make the necessary arrangements.
Transport: The ferry crossing to Mull is usually fairly smooth, however the boat trip
to Staffa will be in a small open boat. If you suffer from sea sickness please be aware
that this may not be a smooth crossing. Transport to, and while on Mull will be by
minibus, along narrow winding roads.
Weather and Field Conditions: Several of the excursions planned will involve some
walking on difficult and uneven ground. A few of the excursions will involve being away
from the bus (and in the middle of nowhere) for the majority of the day.
Good hiking boots, full water-proofs and warm clothing are essential for everyone coming on this trip. Temperatures
in Scotland at this time of year can range from 10-30 deg C, and although we are hoping for good weather,
summer in Scotland can be unpredictable, and is sometimes cold, wet and windy. Paths may be flooded
and muddy at all times of the year. We do not want anyone getting hurt or being unprepared so please
make sure you have the appropriate field gear.
If you have any questions or worries about the planned excursions, please contact Kate Dobson (Kate.Dobson@ges.gla.ac.uk)
before paying for the field trip.
Please submit a seperate online registration form for each
person attending the trip. Payments for multiple registrants
can be made at once using the form below.
Payment is by credit card or an existing Paypal
account. Please contact the organising committee if you experience
problems making the payment. A electronic receipt will be sent
to you once the payment has been processed. Please use the
following buttons to add your required elements to you "shopping
