Workshops, Short Courses & Breakout Sessions

A series of dedicated workshop and breakout sessions will be incorporated into the main conference program.  These sessions will focus on specific theoretical and technical aspects of the techniques, and experts in these areas will be invited.  All delegates are invited to participate in these "nuts and bolts" informal, floor driven discussions.

A two day post-conference (U-Th)/He short course & workshop will be run on the 21st & 22nd August. This course is aimed at those new to (U-Th)/He analyses and will cover all aspects of theory practice of helium thermochronology. Places will be limited and preference will be given to students and early carreer scientists. More details below.

The following outlines are being considered as a starting point for these discussions.

Format: A panel of modelling experts will take the floor to respond to questions posed by the delegates.. Quesionts should be put to the panel in writing over the first three days of the conference via the Question Board by the registration desk. All questions, the repsonses, and subsequent debate wiil be used to populate an online forum section on the Ontrack website. More details to follow soon.

Registration Deadline:
May 31st 2010

Details:

A workshop on (U-Th)/He thermochronology will be held at the University of Glasgow and SUERC on 21-22 August, 2010. The workshop is suitable for early career scientists who wish to gain an understanding of the technique. The focus will be on methodology and will include theoretical and practical sessions in all relevant aspects of (U-Th)/He thermochronology.

Deadline for applications is May 31st 2010.

Registration:

No fee will be charged for conference participants, but places are limited. An application form is available here. Enquires about the workshop can be made to Dr. Finlay Stuart (f.stuart@suerc.gla.ac.uk)

The IGCP Project 543 ”Low-temperature thermochronology: applications and inter-laboratory calibration” will sponsor participation of students and young researchers from developing and emerging countries. Deadline for applications is May 15, 2010. For further information, please contact massimiliano.zattin@unipd.it. A support application form can be downloaded here or visit the website of the IGCP project.
