I am working with Professor Paul Bishop in two postdoctoral projects that deal with the following topics: |
There are more than one thousand of water powered mills around Scotland that were built from the middle ages for grinding grains and rocks and cuting trimber. After the industrial revolution most of the mills are in disuse, and as a result, their milldams are in disrepair causing in some cases the wall breaching. We are studying the impact of milldams on the Scottish rivers either at their construction and at their failure. |

How erosion rates are controlled by lithology in post-orogenic landscapes
We are investigating the evolution of Post-Orogenic Landscapes. The aim of the Project is to assess the control by lithology and the rate and style of landscape evolution in a typical post-orogenic setting (1) by documenting rates of landscape evolution, and (2) by assessing the ways in which landscape evolution is slowed by resistant lithologies. The study combine digital terrain analysis, long profile analysis and cosmogenic nuclide analysis in the Lachlan river, a bedrock river catchment located close to the Southeast coast of Australia. |
How OSL technique can be used for studing geomorphological events
Optical Stimulated Luminescence is a technique that can be used not only for dating. This can be also useful for studing the hydraulic behavior of flows, like it is the case of the lahars occurred in the Huiloac gorge in the Popocatepetl volcano, Mexico. This study implies the collaboration between the Department of Geographical and Earth Sciences at the University of Glasgow, the Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre (SUERC) and the National Autonomous University at Mexico (Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, UNAM) in collaboration with Dr. Esperanza Munoz-Salinas, Dr. Paul Bishop, Dr. David Sanderson and Dr. Jose Juan Zamorano. |
