Scottish Meteorites and Related Features

There are 3 recognised falls and 1 find in Scotland, the falls being High Possil, Perth and Strathmore and the find is Glenrothes. These are marked in red on the map below. A fall is a meteorite that was seen to land, whereas a find is one that is found on the ground without knowing when it fell.

There are also a number of records of falls which may or may not be real meteorites. These include Copinsay, Tiree, Loch Tay, Newstead and Leadhills, and are marked in blue.

In addition there are also the remains of meteorite falls. The confirmed example in Scotland is known as the Stac Fada Member and is a deposit left from an ancient impact. There is also a possible impact crater in Shetland.
