FreeHand
Plug-in : visit Macromedia SHOCKWAVE for more information.
The Macromedia Shockwave plug-in allows binary files created in FreeHand
(fh7, fh5, fh4) or files imported into FreeHand (eg Illustrator and
CorelDraw export files) to be embedded within web pages. Shockwave
for FreeHand are supported by both Macintosh and Windows platforms.
PLUG-INS : Interactive maps created as
vector files in graphics software packages (eg Illustrator,
FreeHand, CorelDraw) can now be incorporated and viewed on a web
server without the need to convert to a raster bitmap format such as GIF
or JPEG. This is achieved with the use of plug-ins or filters which are
accessed directly by the browser (eg Netscape; Explorer) from the
client or users own computer.
With the aid of a plug-in, vector maps can now be viewed in web pages
at high resolution with no loss of quality while zooming or
panning (scrolling) the map. It is possible to zoom in by factors
of up 25,000 times. As these file are in vector binary format download
speeds are substantially faster than similar raster bitmap images.
As with raster files hot spot links can also be incorporated or "mapped"
to these vector files. It should be noted that if a raster image (eg a photo
or small scanned inset map) is included as part of a Freehand Shockwave
file, the raster image will NOT increase in resolution during zooming.
Plug-ins are currently available from Macromedia and Autodesk for several
of their products.
